Daniel, like Esther, was in exile – forced to live in a foreign country, but he stuck to his faith in God.
When a law was passed that meant praying to anyone other than the King Daniel refused to accept it and ended up in the Lion’s Den.
Daniel’s friends – Meshack, Shadrach and Abednego – (more easily remembered as My Shack, Your Shack and a Bungalow) also fell foul and uttered these amazing lines.
“‘King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” – Daniel 3:16-18
God will deliver us, and even if He doesn’t He’s still God and we will worship Him alone!
They, and Daniel, knew who was in charge and that helped them to be brave in the face of a Lion’s Den and a Fiery Furnace.
Are we prepared to be brave in standing up for our faith knowing that ultimately God is God and He is in charge?
Could we, like the three friends, bravely stand against evil even if it risked us our own lives?
I hope so, and with God’s help, Yes!
